The palettes of Europe

Updated: Jun 24, 2024

I had the most incredible trip to Europe with my sister-in-law. My brother, Peter, was supposed to take this cruise but, sadly, he passed away in 2022. Anne asked me if I would take his place and I was honored.

Join me on this journey through the palettes of Europe, and immerse yourself in the colors that make these regions so enchanting and unforgettable.

Europe is a continent of diverse landscapes, cultures, and histories, each contributing to the unique palettes that define its regions. From the sun-kissed coasts of Portugal to the pastoral beauty of the UK, the colors of these nations tell stories of their rich heritage and natural splendor. Portugal's palette is dominated by the vibrant hues of its coastline and the warm tones of its architecture. The azure blue of the Atlantic Ocean contrasts beautifully with the ochre cliffs and golden beaches of the Algarve. In cities like Lisbon and Porto the colorful azulejos ceramic tiles that adorn buildings add a splash of blue, white and green to the urban landscape. They are absolutely stunning! The terracotta rooftops, pastel facades, and the rich, deep reds of the port wine (delicious, I might add) create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

I loved Portugal!!

The attached photos started with the Portugal palettes but then I added a few swatches to make it my own.

Here are a few more photos, and palettes, from Portugal.

The blue-and-white azulejos are reflected in the sunbaked beaches and enchanting blue water of the Atlantic coast. The fuchsia and gold of bougainvillea in bloom are mirrored, though timeworn and softened, in the colorfully painted facades of pastel homes.

What an amazing country!

Here are a few palettes. Next, on to Spain!!

What a beautiful sophisticated palette for a Christmas card
